No.080Deep Rock Galactic01The core loop
Action → feedback → next choice- 01Hit a one-person dead end
- 02Take stock of abilities
- 03Combine skills
- 04Break through and move on
↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.
Walk through one round
A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.
- T1
Turn 1 · The situation
A mineral vein sits 8m up; the scout’s grapple is cooling down, and the engineer has 2 platforms.
- T2
Turn 2 · The player chooses
The engineer places two platforms and the driller tunnels from them.
- T3
Turn 3 · The feedback
The team mines it, but with no platforms left, extraction takes 30 seconds longer.
- T4
Turn 4 · The next decision
Next area, they agree to wait for the grapple first.
How it plays
Each character brings a unique tool—platforms, grapples, digging or shields. Obstacles are designed to need two or more abilities combined. New paths from combos, and getting stuck when someone’s missing, are the main feedback.
What the player weighs
- Stick to your role vs cover for others
- Spend abilities on traversal vs save for emergencies
02Start small
Scope is an editorial estimate for the minimum prototype, not the reference game or a production schedule.
03One mechanic, different implementations

Deep Rock Galactic
Four classes cover drilling, platforms, grapples and flares, ziplines and shields, and mining and extraction often need several together.

Trine 2
The wizard conjures and moves objects, the thief grapples and shoots, the knight fights and blocks, and in co-op each player controls one.
The difference worth noticing
Deep Rock’s synergy serves dynamic mining missions; Trine 2’s serves physics puzzle levels.
Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.
04What could you combine?
Solo runs unlock one character’s abilities, leaving areas that need others, which players revisit after teaming up or unlocking them.
