Wet, Cold, Warming Up

One rainstorm turns travel into a search for fire; dry clothes decide how far you get.

01The core loop

Action → feedback → next choice
  1. 01Weather soaks and chills
  2. 02Body heat drops
  3. 03Seek heat or cover
  4. 04Dry off, move again

↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.

Walk through one round

A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.

  1. T1

    Turn 1 · The situation

    Soaked, warmth 45%, a cabin 300 m ahead.

  2. T2

Turn 2 · The player chooses

Dash to the cabin and light a fire inside rather than outdoors.

  3. T3

    Turn 3 · The feedback

Warmth dips to 35% en route, then reaches 80% after an hour with clothes dry.

  4. T4

Turn 4 · The next decision

Mark the cabin as a waypoint for future trips.

How it plays

Wetness amplifies cold and soaked clothing loses much of its insulation. Fires, shelter and certain gear restore warmth or block rain, but all require stopping or preparing.

What the player weighs

  • Push through rain or wait it out
  • Wear heavy warm gear or move light

03One mechanic, different implementations

The Long Dark
L

The Long Dark

P1

Clothes have warmth and windproof values; wet clothing can freeze and lose insulation, needing a fire or indoors to dry, and wind chill speeds heat loss.

Valheim
V

Valheim

P2

Rain applies Wet, which combines with Cold to hurt regeneration; fires and shelter warm you, and mountains require frost-resistant gear or mead.

The difference worth noticing

The Long Dark treats hypothermia as lethal; Valheim mostly uses cold and wet as debuffs rather than outright death.

Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.

04What could you combine?

Wet, Cold, Warming UpSurvival & needs+

Fast-travel nodes are indoor camps; teleporting while wet carries the chill with you, so dry off before jumping.
