Walk through one round
A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.
- T1
Turn 1 · The situation
Two pressure plates 20m apart must be pressed within 1 second; one player needs a 10-second detour.
- T2
Turn 2 · The player chooses
The first to arrive waits, and the other calls ‘three, two, one’.
- T3
Turn 3 · The feedback
They land 0.4 seconds apart, and the door opens.
- T4
Turn 4 · The next decision
The next needs three switches, so one is held down with an object.
How it plays
A mechanism has several switches in different places and only works if activated within a short window. Players split up, confirm readiness and sync their timing. Switch lights, countdowns and success sounds provide feedback.
What the player weighs
- Split up vs stay together for safety
- Wait for your partner vs finish your own tasks
02Start small
Scope is an editorial estimate for the minimum prototype, not the reference game or a production schedule.
03One mechanic, different implementations

Portal 2
In co-op, many puzzles need both robots on separate buttons or plates, timing their actions to progress.

Among Us
When impostors sabotage the reactor or oxygen, crewmates split to two panels, and the reactor needs both held at once.
The difference worth noticing
In Portal 2 sync is the puzzle; in Among Us it’s a pressure tool that forces crew to scatter.
Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.
04What could you combine?
Linked portals let one player see a distant switch, so pairs sync across rooms by sharing sight through portals.

Pick Them Back Up
A fallen teammate isn’t the end; risking the rescue is the real team test.
