No.078Bread & Fred01The core loop
Action → feedback → next choice- 01The rope limits distance
- 02One moves, one anchors
- 03Catch a falling partner
- 04Advance in rhythm
↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.
Walk through one round
A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.
- T1
Turn 1 · The situation
A 4m rope joins two players; a 3m gap separates them from a small ledge.
- T2
Turn 2 · The player chooses
A grabs the ground as anchor while B runs and jumps.
- T3
Turn 3 · The feedback
B falls half a meter short and dangles; A is dragged a meter.
- T4
Turn 4 · The next decision
A holds firm while B swings for a second try.
How it plays
Players are joined by a physical rope or chain that limits spread and transmits every pull. One can anchor while the other swings across a gap, or be dragged down instead. Rope tension, sway and falls are the clearest feedback.
What the player weighs
- Bold leaps vs steady progress
- Be the anchor vs the lead
02Start small
Scope is an editorial estimate for the minimum prototype, not the reference game or a production schedule.
03One mechanic, different implementations

Bread & Fred
Two penguins roped together climb a snowy mountain, one anchoring while the other swings and jumps.

Chained Together
Several players chained together climb upward, and one misstep can drag the whole group back down.
The difference worth noticing
Bread & Fred is carefully tuned for two; Chained Together scales into multiplayer chaos.
Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.
04What could you combine?
Hook one end of the rope to a grapple point; the partner must release at the swing’s peak to launch the other to a distant ledge.
