No.059Don't Starve Together01The core loop
Action → feedback → next choice- 01Harvest regrowing nodes
- 02Note regrowth timers
- 03Plan a circuit
- 04Return on schedule
↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.
Walk through one round
A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.
- T1
Turn 1 · The situation
Six berry bushes regrow every 4 days; it's day 3 and the player has half a day free.
- T2
Turn 2 · The player chooses
They explore a new cave today and plan to loop back to the bushes tomorrow.
- T3
Turn 3 · The feedback
On day 4 all bushes are ripe, yielding 18 berries, enough for two jars of jam.
- T4
Turn 4 · The next decision
They mark a mushroom patch found in the cave and add it to the circuit.
How it plays
Berries, grass and wild plants regrow after a delay; some shift with seasons or wither after repeated picks and need care. Players build a fixed circuit, turning foraging into a rhythmic routine.
What the player weighs
- Maintain the route vs. explore new ground
- Pick everything now vs. leave some to keep producing
02Start small
Scope is an editorial estimate for the minimum prototype, not the reference game or a production schedule.
03One mechanic, different implementations

Don't Starve Together
Berry bushes, grass and saplings regrow but wither after repeated picks and need fertilizer, stop growing in winter, and are often transplanted near base.

Stardew Valley
Seasonal forage can spawn daily across the map, and salmonberry and blackberry seasons are short windows players make special trips for.
The difference worth noticing
Don't Starve's regrowing nodes need upkeep or they fail; Stardew's are seasonal gifts.
Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.
04What could you combine?
Tie in timed contracts: a merchant buys certain berries only on set days, so players align regrowth cycles with delivery dates.

Dig to the Right Depth
The ore you want lives at a certain depth, so you have to get there.
