01The core loop

Action → feedback → next choice
  1. 01Build bond points
  2. 02Hit a stage threshold
  3. 03Trigger a personal scene
  4. 04Gain rewards and new content

↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.

Walk through one round

A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.

  1. T1

    Turn 1 · The situation

A sits at rank 4; the next scene needs rank 5 and the library on a Friday night. It's Wednesday and you're 30 points short.

  2. T2

Turn 2 · The player chooses

You spend Wednesday and Thursday with A for 15 points each.

  3. T3

    Turn 3 · The feedback

Friday night a scene icon appears at the library; A shares her family history and you learn a new skill.

  4. T4

Turn 4 · The next decision

The next stage needs rank 9 and slows down, so you consider working on B.

How it plays

Bond levels are split into stages, each unlocking a personal scene. Scenes often need extra conditions like time, place or weather. Choices inside may shape what follows and grant skills or items.

What the player weighs

  • Time spent on one character means missing another's story
  • Chasing scene rewards can clash with main-progress goals

03One mechanic, different implementations

Stardew Valley
S

Stardew Valley

P1

Each romanceable villager has heart events at stages like 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 14 hearts, triggered at certain places and times.

Persona 4 Golden
P

Persona 4 Golden

P2

Social Links have ranks, each with a scene that boosts fusing Personas of that Arcana, while free time slots are limited.

The difference worth noticing

Stardew's scenes are a life-sim bonus; P4G wires Social Links straight into combat growth.

Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.

Like ability gates, a bond scene teaches a traversal skill that opens previously blocked areas.
