01The core loop

Action → feedback → next choice
  1. 01Harvest crops
  2. 02Sell or keep for seed
  3. 03Plant more with seeds
  4. 04Reap a bigger next harvest

↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.

Walk through one round

A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.

  1. T1

    Turn 1 · The situation

The player harvests 20 crops selling at 60 each; seeds cost 40 in shops, and a seed machine turns 1 crop into 2 seeds.

  2. T2

Turn 2 · The player chooses

They sell 12 and turn 8 into 16 seeds.

  3. T3

    Turn 3 · The feedback

They get 720 cash and save 640 on seeds, growing next season's planting by half.

  4. T4

Turn 4 · The next decision

Next season they need more land and watering to use all those seeds.

How it plays

Harvested crops can be sold for cash or turned into seeds through a machine or the harvest itself, then replanted. Saving seed cuts purchase costs and preserves varieties shops don't sell, but delays cash. Seed counts in storage and projected next-season income guide the choice.

What the player weighs

  • Sell now for cash, or keep seed for future scale.
  • Keep seeds of a rare variety, or sell its pricey fruit.

03One mechanic, different implementations

Stardew Valley
S

Stardew Valley

P1

The Seed Maker turns crops into their seeds, especially valuable for expensive or unbuyable crops, making the farm self-sustaining.

Core Keeper
C

Core Keeper

P2

As I recall, harvesting drops seeds, with higher odds of extras as Gardening skill rises, so seed saving is near-automatic but you still choose between planting and cooking.

The difference worth noticing

Stardew Valley makes seed saving an explicit economic choice via a machine; Core Keeper lets it happen naturally on harvest.

Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.

Markets hide crop prices until you sell a batch, so each sale informs how much to keep for seed versus sell.
