01The core loop

Action → feedback → next choice
  1. 01Stock a fish
  2. 02Wait for growth and yield
  3. 03Meet capacity requests
  4. 04Harvest, process, sell

↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.

Walk through one round

A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.

  1. T1

    Turn 1 · The situation

The pond holds 3 salmon at capacity; expansion needs 2 seaweed.

  2. T2

Turn 2 · The player chooses

The player hands over fresh seaweed instead of cooking with it.

  3. T3

    Turn 3 · The feedback

Capacity rises to 5, and days later the pond starts producing roe daily.

  4. T4

Turn 4 · The next decision

The player processes roe into a pricier product, doubling profit.

How it plays

Build a pond, stock it, and fish multiply over time; bigger populations produce more steadily, yielding roe or special items. At capacity, delivering certain items unlocks expansion. Fishing turns from one-off catches into a long-term investment.

What the player weighs

  • Sell a fish now vs. stock it for later
  • Spend items on expansion vs. use them elsewhere

03One mechanic, different implementations

Stardew Valley

P1

Pond fish multiply and produce roe or other items; at the population cap the pond requests an item, and delivering it allows further growth.

P2

To my knowledge you can build a fish pond, add fish and it periodically produces collectible items, possibly requiring feeding; I'm not sure of the exact rules.

The difference worth noticing

Stardew ties ponds to other systems via expansion quests; Dinkum's pond is more of a simple timed producer.

Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.

04What could you combine?

Add a fertilizer trade-off: rich feed speeds breeding but fouls water quality, requiring downtime or water changes.
