01The core loop

Action → feedback → next choice
  1. 01Hear a rumor about him
  2. 02Spend resources to trace it
  3. 03Unlock files and timeline
  4. 04Revise your judgment

↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.

Walk through one round

A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.

  1. T1

    Turn 1 · The situation

A tavern keeper says he destroyed a whole family three years ago.

  2. T2

Turn 2 · The player chooses

She spends today's influence tracing that rumor.

  3. T3

    Turn 3 · The feedback

A timeline record opens: he was actually saving someone, but nobody knew.

  4. T4

Turn 4 · The next decision

She chases another rumor to find who spread it.

How it plays

A character file starts incomplete; players pick up rumors from taverns, informants or missions, then unlock history, timeline and voice lines by raising bonds or digging further. Impressions keep getting revised, which suits leads with murky identities and loyalties: getting to know someone becomes a collection you push forward.

What the player weighs

  • Include false rumors for deduction, or keep all true for less confusion.
  • Tie to upgrades for investment, or unlock through story for narrative flow.

03One mechanic, different implementations

Reign of Nightfall

Reign of Nightfall

P1

Character files and rumor notes unlock gradually through bonds and dispatch missions.

Ashes of the Kingdom

Ashes of the Kingdom

P2

As head of an intelligence bureau you send agents to dig up people’s secrets, then use what they find to stir court politics.

The difference worth noticing

Under Nightfall turns information into personal files; Ashes of the Kingdom blends intelligence into management and intrigue.

Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.

04What could you combine?

Open with three contradictory rumors, confirming or debunking one per episode, so players keep watching with bias and curiosity.
