01The core loop

Action → feedback → next choice
  1. 01Empty mag, start reload
  2. 02Watch the reload bar
  3. 03Press again in the window
  4. 04Gain speed or penalty

↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.

Walk through one round

A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.

  1. T1

    Turn 1 · The situation

Normal reload is 2 s; hitting the window finishes in 1 s with +10% damage, missing takes 3 s. Two enemies close in.

  2. T2

Turn 2 · The player chooses

You risk it and press at 0.9 s.

  3. T3

    Turn 3 · The feedback

A chime and a flash: done in 1 s with the damage bonus.

  4. T4

Turn 4 · The next decision

Next reload comes under heavier pressure, and you'll weigh the gamble again.

How it plays

Reloading shows a bar with a highlighted zone. Pressing reload again inside it finishes early and may add a bonus; mistiming lengthens the reload or jams. Not pressing finishes at normal speed.

What the player weighs

  • Going for the window pays well but is easy to miss in chaos
  • Watching the bar draws eyes away from enemies

P1

A reload bar appears over the character; as far as I recall, active reload isn't a default for every gun and ties to certain items or weapons (uncertain).

SYNTHETIK: Legion Rising

P2

Active reload is a core system: timed presses reload faster, mistakes are penalized, and it interacts with jams and other gun states.

The difference worth noticing

SYNTHETIK makes active reload a baseline skill on every gun; in Gungeon it's a more peripheral add-on.

Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.

04What could you combine?

Fusion · Original design proposal · not an existing feature
Active ReloadAiming & projectiles+

In co-op, a teammate can hit your reload window for you, and success buffs both, encouraging mutual cover.
