No.199Hades01The core loop
Action → feedback → next choice- 01Hold to charge
- 02Read the charge cue
- 03Release on timing
- 04Resolve by charge level
↻Feedback changes the situation — the next round starts from there.
Walk through one round
A simplified design example. Situations and numbers illustrate the mechanic, not exact rules from a reference game.
- T1
Turn 1 · The situation
Full charge takes 1 s: 60 damage, 20 if partial; releasing at 0.8–1.0 s gives ×1.5. An enemy charges every 1.5 s.
- T2
Turn 2 · The player chooses
You start charging right after its rush and release at 0.9 s.
- T3
Turn 3 · The feedback
A flash and 90 damage, staggering the enemy.
- T4
Turn 4 · The next decision
It enrages and rushes every 1 s, so full charges no longer fit.
How it plays
Holding attack builds power, raising damage, range or penetration. Some designs add a perfect-release window where early or late releases are weaker, and over-holding may overheat or backfire. Charging slows you and leaves you open.
What the player weighs
- Full charge hits hard but leaves you exposed
- Quick partial charges are safer but may lower total damage
02Start small
Scope is an editorial estimate for the minimum prototype, not the reference game or a production schedule.
03One mechanic, different implementations

Hades
The Heart-Seeking Bow charges its shot, and releasing on the flash fires a stronger 'power shot'; some boons enhance charged attacks.

Deep Rock Galactic
The Engineer's Experimental Plasma Charger fires charged orbs that build heat, and the Scout's M1000 has a charged focus shot.
The difference worth noticing
Hades stresses exact release timing; Deep Rock ties charging to heat and ammo resources.
Case notes are Yoroll editorial summaries; rules may change between versions.
04What could you combine?
Tie charged shots to posture: full charges shred enemy posture, but near-broken enemies press you harder.

Pause to Tighten Spread
Hold the trigger and shots scatter; ease off and they tighten again.
